How it Happened
No. 30 Arkansas (11-3) used a two-out solo shot by Dominic Fletcher to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

The Rams (5-7) moved ahead in the top of the fourth however, as Jordan Powell led off the inning with a single to right center and then scored on a double by Chris Hess. After a tough-luck double play - where Matt O'Neil grounded out and Martin Figueroa was also called out on interference - Mike Corin doubled down the left field line to drive in Hess and give the Rams a 2-1 advantage.

The Razorbacks wasted no time evening  it up, taking advantage of three walks and a catcher's interference to make it a 2-2 game in the bottom of the fourth. A two-run sixth inning then gave Arkansas its first lead of the game at 4-2.

Rhody threatened in the top of the seventh, but an inning-ending double play stranded a pair of runners. The Hogs used another solo home run - this time by Luke Bonfield - to seal the 5-2 victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • As a team, Rhode Island combined for nine hits while holding Arkansas to five.
  • Senior Martin Figueroa went 3-for-4 in the loss while junior Jordan Powell and redshirt sophomore Laurence Hill each had a pair of hits. Powell also scored one of Rhody's two runs.
  • Redshirt junior Chris Hess was the only other player to score a run for the Rams. He finished the game 1-for-4 with an RBI double.
  • Redshirt senior Mike Corin also had an RBI double, his team-leading seventh extra-base hit of the season.
  • Junior Tyler Wilson allowed just one hit while striking out five in a 3.1-inning start. He gave up two runs (one earned) on 81 pitches before being lifted in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Redshirt senior Blaise Whitman - who replaced Wilson with one out and the bases loaded - used back-to-back strikeouts to get Rhody out of the fourth-inning jam. He finished the afternoon with five strikeouts over 2.1 innings, but was charged with the loss as he was responsible for both of Arkansas' sixth-inning runs.
  • Freshman Nick Robinson allowed one run on a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Junior Dom Grillo tossed a scoreless eighth, replacing freshman Connor Romano with two runners on and getting the Rams out of the inning unharmed.
