The Rams pulled ahead for good in the top of the fifth when a sac-fly by Figueroa scored Jordan Powell, who had singled to short before advancing to third on back-to-back walks issued to Hess and Matt O'Neil.

Rhody tacked on three more the following inning. Mike Foley first scored on an RBI single by Kevin Heiss and Hess later used his second double of the day to drive in both Heiss and Powell, putting URI on top 5-1.

Richmond was unable to get much going through the remainder of the game as Nick Johnson punctuated the win by striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth.
