How it Happened
Richmond (13-20, 4-4) used a two-out walk, followed by a stolen base and an RBI single to walk off with a 7-6 win over Rhode Island (17-15, 7-3) Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.

The Rams had jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning - thanks to a three-run homer by Matt O'Neil - but the Spiders plated three of their own in the bottom of the frame.

A two-run shot by Chris Hess put Rhody back on top two innings later, however Richmond put another three spot of the board - this time in the bottom of the sixth - to take a 6-5 lead.

Rhode Island evened the score in the top of the seventh when Jesse Lee scored on a sacrifice fly by Martin Figueroa, but the Rams stranded the go-ahead run on third base and managed just one hit the rest of the way.

  • Nearly all of Rhode Island's offense came from the top half of the lineup as the Rams' 5-9 hitters combined to go 1-for-15 with just one RBI and zero runs scored.
  • Redshirt junior starter Matt Murphy allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits  and four walks over 5.2 innings. He also struck out two in the no-decision start.
