How it Happened
For the fourth game in a row Rhode Island (18-15, 8-3) got on the board in the first inning, this time taking a 4-0 lead thanks in part to a three-run homer by Mike Corin. Mike Foley then drew a two-out walk before crossing the plate on an RBI double by Brett McManus.

Richmond (13-21, 4-5) got a run back in the bottom of the second but the Rams combined for eight runs between the fourth and fifth to put things out of reach. Chris Hess made it 6-1 Rhody in the top of the fourth, driving in Jordan Powell and Kevin Heiss on a double to right center. Corin followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Hess and gave the Rams a 7-1 advantage.

The following inning Greg Cavaliere, Heiss and Powell opened the frame with back-to-back-to-back singles before a fielding error on a fly ball by Jesse Lee allowed everyone to advance a base. Hess then reached on an RBI fielder's choice ball, setting up Matt O'Neil's first home run of the game - a three-run shot over the left field wall.

O'Neil went yard again in the seventh before a Foley sac-fly pushed Corin across to make it a 14-1 game.

The Spiders combined for four runs over the final three frames, but URI scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth for the eventual 16-5 victory.
