Volleyball Loses to Fordham, 3-0, on the Road

How it Happened
Rhode Island suffered its seventh-straight loss, falling to Fordham 3-0 Saturday night in the Bronx.

Rhody and Fordham battled in the first set, trading the lead five times. With URI up late at 21-20, Fordham reeled off three consecutive points to move ahead by two (23-21). A Hazel Brown kill, followed by a block from Brown and Gillian Klise, tied things back up at 23-23, but Fordham claimed the next two points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The second set was all Rhody early on as the Rams jumped out to an 8-1 lead and pushed it to 16-6 on a block by Mariah Paulette and Claire Chaplinsky. Fordham used a 6-0 push to close the gap to four (16-12) and continued to slowly chip away at the deficit. With URI leading 21-19, Fordham used another 6-0 run to close things out and win the set 25-21.

The home Rams then finished things off with another 25-21 victory in the third set to complete the 3-0 sweep of Rhode Island.

  • Sophomore Gabrielle Shilling led Rhode Island with eight kills on the night.
  • Sophomore Mariah Paulette recorded a match-high seven blocks, including one solo.
  • Sophomore Ella Ratzloff led Rhody with 17 digs.
  • Freshman Claire Wagner finished with 10 digs and a pair of service aces.
  • Junior Annie Ell nearly double-doubled with 16 assists and nine digs.
  • Freshman Adel Gage added 13 assists for the Rams.
  • Senior Hazel Brown recorded six kills, nine digs and three blocks.
  • Redshirt junior Natale Zanellato, junior Claire Chaplinsky and freshman Gillian Klise each had five kills. Klise also had two block assists and one solo.

Up Next
The Rams return home to host La Salle (Friday) and Duquesne (Saturday) next weekend.
