How it Happened
Jackson Coutts put Rhody up 1-0 in the first inning - sending his second home run of the season over the left-center wall - but Maryland quickly evened things up in the bottom of the frame. The Terps pushed across another run in the second to pull ahead 2-1.
The Rams reclaimed the lead in the top of the third, where they put five runs on the board. Coutts first delivered a bases-loaded double and Xavier Vargas followed with a three-run homer that put Rhody on top 6-2.
Two Maryland runs in the fourth, and three more in the fifth, erased Rhody's advantage once again however as the Terrapins led 7-6 after five complete.
Rhody (2-3) tied the score at 7-7 in the top of the sixth, when Mark Coley scored on a double by Joe Fortin, but a solo shot by Austin Chavis put the Terps back in front 8-7 in the bottom of the inning.
A costly Maryland error with two away in the top of the seventh then allowed both Coutts and Josh Brodeur to score on a ball driven to left by Coley. That play put the Rams up 9-8.
Vargas then went yard again in the top of the eighth, this time using a two-run shot to push Rhody's lead to 11-8.
The Terps (4-1) threatened in the bottom ninth - advancing runners to second and third with just one out - but Tyler Brosius needed just three more pitches to end the game back with back-to-back groundouts.
