How it Happened
A cold fourth quarter for Rhode Island allowed George Washington to pull away late in a 73-56 loss Tuesday night.

George Washington led throughout the first quarter, but Rhode Island kept the score close. The teams traded baskets, and URI's Davida Dale hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap the opening period with the teams tied, 15-15.

The Rams scored the first five points of the second quarter as Erin Jones hit a 3-pointer and Dale added a jumper for a 20-15 lead. George Washington responded with a 7-0 run of its own to reclaim the lead, 22-20. It was punch-counterpunch action for the next several minutes, as there were five lead changes in a span of 1:42, with both sides clicking offensively.

Trailing 27-25, Rhode Island got a 3-pointer and layup on consecutive possession from Brazil Harvey-Carr, followed by an old-fashioned 3-point play from Kassondra Brown to grab a 33-27 lead. GW closed the half on a 12-6 spurt, sending the teams to the break with the Colonials up, 39-38.

George Washington came out hot in the third quarter. A 15-3 run that featured three straight baskets from Alexandra Maund opened up a 54-41 advantage for the Colonials midway through the period. A Nicole Jorgensen layup slowed the bleeding, but the double-digit lead was the first by either side.

The Rams did not allow the Colonials to score again in the third. Rhody scored the final seven points of the quarter to get itself within 54-48 entering the final period.

Another fast start for the Colonials to open the fourth quarter sealed the game. Rhody opened the period 1-of-7 with three turnovers, helping GW go on a 13-2 run to ice the game.
