How it Happened
Rhode Island finished its West Coast weekend with a wild 15-11 victory at #25 Arizona. Overall at the Arizona tournament, the Rams split a pair of games with the 25th-ranked Wildcats and went 2-0 against #27 Central Michigan.

In the weekend finale, Rhody took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Greg Cavaliere scored on a sacrifice fly by Mark Coley. The Rams stretched it to 3-0 an inning later thanks to an RBI double by Tino Salgado and a run-scoring single by Cavaliere.

Arizona put one run on the board in the bottom of the second, and added four more in the third to pull ahead 5-3.

URI knotted things up at 5-5 in the top of the fourth. Josh Brodeur and Cavaliere strung together back-to-back one-out singles before both runners advanced on a passed ball. Jackson Coutts then grounded out to score Brodeur and Xavier Vargas doubled to bring in Cavaliere. A single run in the home half of the inning put Arizona back on top though, 6-5.

A two-run triple by Vargas pushed Rhody ahead 7-6 in the top of the sixth, but the Wildcats scored two runs of their own in their next trip to the plate to reclaim the lead at 8-7.

After stranding a pair of runners in the seventh, the Rams used a two-out rally in the eighth to climb back on top 9-8. Jordan Laske first singled with two away to drive in Coutts and Joe Fortin later drew a bases-loaded walk to push across Austin White.

Arizona came back again though, tacking on two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 10-9 advantage.

Down to their last three outs, the Rams continued to battle in the top of the ninth. There, Coutts doubled with one away to get things started. Vargas was then walked on four straight pitches and Mark Coley reached via hit-by-pitch to load the bases. White then drew a four-pitch walk to tie the game at 10-10 before all three runners advanced on a wild pitch that sent Vargas across the plate as the go-ahead run.

Coley scored the 12th run of the game for Rhode Island on an RBI ground-out by Laske, and Alex Ramirez kept the rally going with a single that drove in White to make it 13-10 Rams. After another Fortin walk, Brodeur drilled a two-run single through the right side, giving Rhode Island the 15-10 advantage.

The Wildcats got a run back in the bottom of the ninth, but URI's late outburst was too much to overcome as the Rams won 15-11.
