Box Score 2 GAME 1: Rhode 11, Delaware State 8
Rhode Island took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Tino Salgado scored on an RBI single by Josh Brodeur. The Hornets tied it up in the bottom of the inning but Rhody pulled ahead for good in the top of the third, where Jackson Coutts and Austin White scored on a pair of wild pitches.
Rhody batted around the order in the top of the fourth, tacking on six additional runs on an RBI-double by Coutts, two-run singles by Mark Coley an Alex Ramirez and a bases-loaded walk to Sonny Ulliana.
Delaware State got a solo home run from Mason Brewer in the home half of the inning, but the Rams responded with two more runs in the top of the fifth to make it an 11-2 game. The Hornets chipped away in their next two trips to the plate, but eventually fell 11-8.
GAME 2: Rhode Island 12, Delaware State 4
The Hornets took their first lead of the series (3-0) in the bottom of the first, and led 4-2 after two complete. That was the only scoring Delaware State would manage though.
In the top of the fourth, Rhode Island used a run-scoring single by Alex Ramirez and an RBI-double by Josh Brodeur to even the game at 4-4. Xavier Vargas then delivered a three-run homer to put the Rams up for good at 7-4.
Greg Cavaliere pushed it to 8-4 in the top of the sixth when he scored on a wild pitch. The Rams then added four more runs in the top of the seventh for the 12-4 victory.
Inside the Box Scores
- Junior Jackson Coutts hit .667 on the day, going 6-for-9 with four doubles, one walk, four runs scored, two RBI and one stolen base.
- Junior Austin White combined to go 3-for-5 with a double, three walks, four runs scored, two RBI and one stolen base.
- Redshirt sophomore Jordan Laske and freshman Tino Salgado each went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
- Redshirt junior Josh Brodeur had two doubles and a single, drove in four runs and scored three of his own.
- Freshman Alex Ramirez was the sixth Ram to finish the day .400 or better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two walks, three RBI and two runs scored.
- Redshirt junior Max Mircovich and sophomore Mark Coley each appeared in one game and went 1-for-3 and two runs scored. Mircovich also walked twice while Coley drove in a pair of runs.
- Junior Xavier Vargas hit his fourth homer of the season in Game 2. He now leads the team with 16 RBI on the season.
- Senior Nick Robinson (Game 1) and freshman Zach Fernandez (Game 2) each earned a win on the afternoon. Fernandez allowed just one hit over three shutout innings while Robinson struck out four through four frames.
- Redshirt senior Tyler Brosius and freshman Quincy Clark each tossed an inning of scoreless relief.
