How it Happened
A rough day in the field hurt Rhode Island as the Rams were swept by No. 13 East Carolina, losing 12-4 in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

URI (0-3) kept the game through the first four innings, trialing by just one run. Down 3-0 in the top of the third, Tino Salgado drew a one-out walk, and Josh Brodeur followed with a bunt single. Greg Cavaliere singled through the left side, bringing Salgado around to score. Addision Kopack followed with a single to right field to score Brodeur, getting the Rams within a run, 3-2. With runners on the corners and one out, back-to-back strikeouts ended the rally.

ECU (3-0) got one run back in the fifth, then things fell apart in the bottom of the sixth. The Pirates capitalized on four Rhode Island to score four runs, three unearned. The trend continued over the next two innings, as ECU scored an unearned run in the seventh, and three more in the eighth to put the game away. In all, ECU scored seven unearned runs on 12 hits, five walks and eight errors.
