How it Happened
Dayton (24-26) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning but Rhody quickly cut it in half in the bottom of the frame when
Xavier Vargas drove in
Austin White to make it a 2-1 game.
From there, neither team sent more than five hitters to the plate until the top of the sixth when Dayton stretched its lead to 3-1.
Rhode Island (28-26-1) - which managed just two hits from the second inning through the eighth - rallied in the ninth. With one away,
Billy Butler singled to left and
Joe Fortin drew a walk. A
Max Mircovich ground out then moved both runners into scoring position with two outs, however that was as close as Rhody got. Pinch-hitter
Jordan Laske then grounded the first pitch he saw to second base to end the game with the tying run on second base.
