How it Happened
The Rams wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a solo home run by
Billy Butler. The lead was short-lived however as William & Mary responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning and another in the second to lead 3-1 after two complete.
Â
Rhody (0-1) had runners in scoring position in both the third and fourth, but was unable to push any runs across before going down in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh.
Â
Meanwhile, William & Mary (1-0) extended its lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning, and then tacked on six more runs in the seventh to effectively put the game out of reach.
Jack Cucinotta scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-2 in the top of the eighth, and
Alex Ramirez crossed the plate on a ninth-inning double by
Tino Salgado, but that was as close as the Rams would get.
