How it Happened
The Rams wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a solo home run by Billy Butler. The lead was short-lived however as William & Mary responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning and another in the second to lead 3-1 after two complete.

Rhody (0-1) had runners in scoring position in both the third and fourth, but was unable to push any runs across before going down in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh.

Meanwhile, William & Mary (1-0) extended its lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning, and then tacked on six more runs in the seventh to effectively put the game out of reach. Jack Cucinotta scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-2 in the top of the eighth, and Alex Ramirez crossed the plate on a ninth-inning double by Tino Salgado, but that was as close as the Rams would get.

Inside the Box Score
  • Senior Billy Butler homered in his first at-bat of the season. It was his only plate appearane of the game.
  • Junior Tino Salgado had URI's only other extra-base hit – an RBI double in the top of the ninth.
  • Graduate transfer Jack Cucinotta and junior Alex Ramirez each scored a run for the Rams.
  • Ramirez was hit by a pitch twice.
  • Freshmen Anthony DePino and Eric Genther both drew pinch-hit walks in their respective Rhode Island debuts.
  • Redshirt freshman Rob Butler had a pinch-hit single in his first at-bat for the Rams.
  • Sophomore Tommy Cartnick reached base twice, on a single and a walk.
  • Grad student Joe Fortin also singled for Rhode Island
  • Fifth-year senior Ryan Twitchell struck out six and allowed just three hits over a 5.0-inning start. He was charged with the loss as he was responsible for each of the Tribes' first three runs.
