How it Happened
Rhode Island erased Bryant's lead on three separate occasions, but could not rally back from the Bulldogs' five-run 10th inning, falling 10-8 in what was slated to be a seven-inning game.
Â
Bryant took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but Rhody got the run back in the bottom of the third when
Jack Cucinotta singled to left to drive in
Addison Kopack.
Â
The Bulldogs used an unearned run to pull ahead 2-1 in the top of the fourth, and held onto the lead until the bottom of the seventh. There,
Anthony DePino blasted a homer into the trees behind center field, tying what would have been a seven-inning game at 2-2.
Â
Bryant went back on top by a run in the top of the eighth, but once again Rhody responded with a game-tying home run – this time off the bat of Kopack. The two-out shot tied the game at 3-3.
Â
After a scoreless ninth, Bryant put five runs on the board in the tenth, thanks in part to a grand slam by Alex Lane. URI got three runs back in the home half of the inning – on an RBI double by
Tino Salgado and a two-run double by
Jordan Laske – but the comeback eventually fell short as Bryant held on for the 8-6 win.
