How it Happened
Bryant got the scoring started by plating two runs in the top of the first, but Rhody quickly evened the score in the bottom of the frame thanks to an RBI single byÂ
Eric Genther and a sacrifice fly fromÂ
Anthony DePino.
The Bulldogs added another run in their next trip to the plate, however Rhody once again evened the score with a leadoff homer from DePino in the bottom of the third.
Bryant tacked on two more in the top of the fourth for a 5-3 advantage, but the Rams used a four-spot in the bottom of the inning to take their first lead of the day.Â
Rob Butler started the rally with a solo shot to right field that made it a one-run game.Â
Brody McKenzie andÂ
Addison Kopack both were hit by a pitch in in consecutive at-bats, setting upÂ
Jack Cucinotta's two-run double. DePino then doubled to plate Cucinotta and put the Rams up 7-5.
After a scoreless fifth, Bryant put three runs on the board in the sixth to go back on top 8-7. The lead was short lived however as Kopack homered in the bottom of the inning, knotting the score at eight apiece.
Rhode Island then pulled back ahead in the bottom of the seventh. With one away,Â
Tino Salgado was hit by a pitch andÂ
Rob Butler followed with a walk to put runners on first and second. A passed ball allowed both to advance a base, setting up Kopack's two-run double down the right field line. Cucinotta then tripled to left center to push across Kopack and give the Rams an 11-8 cushion. That is where play was suspended due to darkness at 6:40 p.m.
Â
When play resumed on Sunday afternoon, the game wrapped up quickly as DePino was the only player from either team to reach base when he singled to short in the bottom of the eighth. Rhody's
Sean Sposato retired all six Bryant hitters he faced for his first career save.
