How it Happened
After combining for 39 hits and 33 runs through the series' first two games, Rhody and Bryant saw their respective offenses silenced in Sunday's finale. The Rams finished the game with just two runs on five hits while the Bulldogs scored three runs on six hits.
Â
Rhody got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead when
Addison Kopack scored on an infield single by
Jordan Laske. However, a two-run homer by Bryant's Jackson Phinney put the visitors ahead in the top of the second.
Â
Tino Salgado's fifth-inning walk gave URI its only baserunner from the second through the seventh inning.
Â
Bryant stretched its lead to 3-1 in the top of the eight, but Rhody did not go down without a fight.
Anthony DePino doubled and then scored on a
Rob Butler single in the bottom of the ninth, but a game-ending strikeout left Butler - the game-tying run - on second with the go-ahead run on first.
