How it Happened
Playing in a must-win situation in order to lock up the seventh and final spot at the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championship, Richmond got to work right away and built a 6-0 lead through three innings.
Â
Rhody put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the fourth when
Eric Genther and
Anthony DePino both crossed the plate on a single by
Jordan Laske. That was the final hit of the day for the Rams, however. URI managed just four more baserunners the rest of the way –
Justin Cherry on a fourth-inning walk,
Jack Cucinotta on a fifth-inning walk,
Joe Fortin on a sixth-inning walk and
Rob Butler on a ninth-inning walk.
Â
The Spiders scored once more in the bottom of the fourth, tacked on three additional runs in the sixth, and added four more in the seventh to wrap up the 14-2 victory.
