How It HappenedÂ
Rhode Island snapped a four-match losing streak against UAlbany, scoring three second-half goals en route to a 5-3 victory over the Great Danes Tuesday night.
The Rams struck first when a
Patrick Gryczewski corner kick was knocked into the net by a UAlbany defender for an own goal just 3:12 into the match. A header by Tiago Dias just 41 seconds later tied the match. Rhody reclaimed the lead in the 33rd minute on
Jordan Koduah's first goal of the season.
Patrick Agyemang padded the lead early in the second half. Taking a ball played in by
Ivan Montoro and
Edvin Akselsen, Agyemang turned quickly and fired a shot past keeper Daniel Shannon for a 3-1 lead. The Great Danes Saad Faiz scored off a cross from the left side to make it a one-goal game in the 69th minute.
A flurry of action saw the teams combine for three goals in the final six minutes.
Edvin Akselsen's first goal of the season made the score 4-2 in the 85th minute, but a penalty kick by Jeff Thielmann just 23 seconds cut the lead in half.
Rafa Villanueva finally iced the win when he curled a shot into the upper left corner in the 86th minute.
