KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Football was well-represented on the CAA Football weekly honor roll, as
Randy Jordan was named Special Teams Player of the Week and
Syeed Gibbs received a Rookie of the Week nod.
The Rams secured two of the league's four weekly accolades following a thrilling, 34-30 victory over Brown on Saturday afternoon that awarded the team its fifth straight Governor's Cup.Â
Jordan had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that put the team ahead at 20-17 in the second quarter. It was the first kick return for a score by a URI player since Ahmere Dorsey had an 89-yard return against James Madison in 2019 and also marked the first touchdown of the defensive back's career.
Gibbs led the defense with two interceptions, a career-high nine tackles, two tackles for loss and two pass break ups. His second interception sealed the victory with six seconds to go, ending a potential game-winning drive for Brown in URI territory. The two interceptions by Gibbs were the first of the season allowed by Brown.
The Rams will return to league action this coming weekend with a game against Richmond on Saturday, Oct. 14 in Kingston. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Meade Stadium.Â
