RHODE ISLAND AT YALE - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Yale will meet for the first time on Saturday, Oct. 17.
  • Rhode Island head coach Jim Fleming noted in his weekly CAA Football video call that he has coached one game at the Yale Bowl in his 40-year coaching career.
  • Then the defensive coordinator at Brown, Fleming's Bears downed Yale 12-3 in New Haven on Sept. 18, 1993.
  • Fleming's only season coaching in the Ivy League was 1993. After that season, Fleming went on to coach at East Carolina for the next three seasons.
  • Yale offensive line coach and offensive run game coordinator Stefon Wheeler spent four seasons with Rhode Island prior to joining the Bulldogs staff.
  • Wheeler spent 2018-2022 with Rhode Island as offensive line coach.

RAMS AGAINST THE IVY LEAGUE

  • Despite being regionally located to most Ivy League schools, Yale is one of six Ivy League schools that Rhode Island has never faced in a football game.
  • The Rams have never played Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton, or Penn.
  • Despite a lack of familiarly with Ivy League foes, Rhode Island's most common opponent in program history is in-state rival Brown.
  • The Rams and Bears have met 110 times.
  • Ironically, Rhode Island's last game on Oct. 3 was against Brown in the annual Governor's Cup.
  • Rhode Island won the game 13-10 at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I.
  • Rhode Island's last game against an Ivy League opponent other than Brown was at Harvard on Sept. 28, 2018.
  • The Rams defeated the Crimson 23-16 at Harvard Stadium.
  • The Crimson are the only Ivy League school outside of Brown to play Rhode Island in a football game.
  • Harvard sports 3-2 series record over Rhode Island.
