Rhode Island Hosts Brown in 44th Annual Governor's Cup

RHODE ISLAND VS. BROWN SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Brown will meet for the 110th time on Saturday afternoon. 
  • The first meeting between the Rams and Bears was Sept. 29, 1909. The Bears defeated the Rams 6-0 in Providence.
  • Though Brown leads the series 74-33-2, Rhode Island has more Governor's Cup victories (23-20) since the introduction of the trophy in 1981.
  • Rhody has faced Brown 109 times, making Brown the Rams most common opponent in program history.
  • Brown topped Rhode Island 28-21 at Centreville Bank Stadium in last year's meeting on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025.
  • It was the first American football game played at Centreville Bank Stadium.
  • Trailing by a score with under a minute to go in the fourth quarter of last year's meeting, Rhode Island quarterback Devin Farrell led a drive to midfield. 
  • However, on third-and-10, his pass intended for Marquis Buchanan sailed high and was intercepted by Brown's Miles Brophy, sealing the victory for the Bears.
  • The Rams turned the ball over four times in last year's loss. 
  • Farrell's 2025 outing included completing 30-of-44 passes for 353 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. 
  • Former Rams Greg Gaines (five receptions, 87 yards) and Connor Finer (eight receptions, 84 yards) led the way for Rhode Island. 
  • Buchanan finished with seven receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. 
  • Rhode Island's defense was highlighted by an 11-tackle performance from Rohan Davy. Davy added two tackles for loss and a sack. 
  • Case Mankins had six tackles including one tackle for loss. 
  • Prior to dropping last year's meeting with Brown, the Rams had won the previous six meetings against the Bears.

HOME SWEET HOME

  • After defeating Elon on Sept. 12 at Centreville Bank Stadium, Rhode Island extended  its home winning streak to 16 games.
  • The Rams streak is the longest in the nation, program history, and currently dates back to the 2023.
  • The Rams current home winning streak includes two postseason victories; a 21-17 victory over Central Connecticut State on Nov. 30, 2024 and a 27-19 victory over CCSU on Nov. 29, 2025.
  • Both playoff wins over the Blue Devils came in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Football Championship.
  • Rhode Island's last loss at home was on Oct. 14, 2023; a 24-17 loss to Richmond.
  • The Rams have finished undefeated at home in each of the last two seasons including a 7-0 record in 2024 and going 6-0 in 2025. They also went 4-1 each season between 2021 and 2023.
  • In regards to this week's opponent, Rhode Island 12-7 in games played against Brown at home. 
  • The Rams have won the last four games against Brown at home. 
  • The last Rhode Island home loss to Brown was on Oct. 4, 2014.
