How It Happened
Rhode Island scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back as it cruised past UMass Lowell 78-38 Friday night.

Teisha Hyman had nine of Rhody's first 10 points as the Rams used a swarming defense to take control early. URI scored 12 points off of eight UMass Lowell turnovers to build a 22-7 by the end of the first quarter. Rhody did not allow any points until 5:26 into the game.

The onslaught continued in the second period, as Rhody outscored the guests 26-5. Tenin Magassa and Sophie Phillips each scored six points to lead the offense, but it was the defense creating the scoring. In the second quarter, Rhody scored 15 points off 11 more River Hawk turnovers. Hyman had three steals in each of the first two quarters as the Rams never allowed UMass Lowell to find rhythm, taking a 48-12 lead into the half.

The end result was never in doubt. Rhody's lead reached as many as 43 points in the second half and never dipped below 33 as URI won its second straight game.
