Hammond, Farrell Sign NLIs for 2024-25

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island head coach Archie Miller announced that forward Tyonne Farrell and point guard Ben Hammond have each signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Rams for the 2024-25 season.

"Today was significant for the future of our program with Tyonne Farrell and Ben Hammond officially joining our program," Miller said. "These are both guys from well-coached, highly successful high school programs. They are accustomed to winning and play the game the right way."

Farrell plays for legendary Pat Clatchey, who has nearly 800 wins for Mount St. Joseph over the last 32 years. His program has produced several Division I players, including Jaylen Adams (St. Bonaventure), Erick Atkins (Notre Dame), Louis Birdsong (St. Bonaventure), Phil Booth (Villanova), Dino Gregory (Maryland), Darryl Morsell (Maryland), George Sims (Georgetown), Will Thomas (George Mason), Cam Williams (Ohio State). Current NBA coach and former NFL player JJ Outlaw (Villanova football) also came from Clatchey's program.

"Tyonne is a physically mature young man who comes out of a great program run by Pat Clatchey," Miller said. "He can play through contact, finish in the post or step back to hit jumpers, so there is strong flexibility to his offensive game. Defensively, he has the strength to wall off drivers and is very difficult to get around. He brings a high motor to the court and has the ability to impact the game in a wide variety of ways."

Hammond comes out of Glen Farello's Paul VI program whose entire starting lineup is signing Division I NLIs. Picking up three- and four-star ratings from multiple sites, he chose the Rams over the likes of George Mason, College of Charleston and Towson. Last season, his team was 31-4 overall, including a perfect 15-0 in the DMV region.

"Ben Hammond was the point guard for one of the most powerful high school programs in the country in Paul VI," Miller said. "He plays for Glen Farello, who has produced more than 80 Division I players and a handful of guys who have played in the NBA. It's program that regularly produces high-level, productive players, and Ben has been at the wheel. We are getting a championship-caliber player who is dynamic on both ends of the floor."

Hammond initially gave a verbal commitment to the Rams in July, followed by Farrell shortly thereafter.
