RHODE ISLAND VS. NORTHEASTERN - SERIES NOTES
- Saturday's game will be the 80th all time between Rhode Island and Northeastern, but the first since the 2010-11 season.
- Rhode Island leads the series, 72-7, including a 42-1 mark as the home team.
- The last time the teams met, Delroy James had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Marquis Jones added 15 points and Nikola Malesevic had 13 points in his first career start.
- Northeastern head coach Bill Coen is in his 18th season with the Huskies.
- He is the program's winningest coach with 275 career wins with the Huskies.
- Coen was an assistant coach at Rhode Island for eight seasons under Al Skinner and later was on Skinner's staff at Boston College as well.Â
- Former Ram Antonio Reynolds Dean - now the associate head coach at Georgia - was an assistant for Coen the last time Northeastern and Rhode Island faced off.
- Northeastern comes to Kingston off a 79-74 win over Central Connecticut State on Dec. 19. Rhode Island opened the season with an 81-70 victory over CCSU in its season opener on Nov. 6.
FOUMENA RECORDS FIRST CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
- Redshirt freshman center Jeremy Foumena is coming off the first double-double of his career after netting 12 points to go with 10 rebounds against New Hampshire on Dec. 21.
- The 10 boards were a career high for Foumena, who has scored in double figures four times.
- Against UNH, Foumena was an efficient 6-of-8 from the floor.
- Foumena is averaging 6.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
- He is the third Ram to record a double-double this season, joining Zek Montgomery (13 points, 11 rebounds against Wagner) and David Fuchs (15 points, 11 rebounds against Fairfield).Â
MODEST IMPROVEMENT AT THE LINE
- Over its last three games, Rhode Island is shooting 28-for-38 at the free throw line, or .737 percent.
- URI's season free throw percentage is up to .605.
- The only time the team free throw percentage has been higher was following the Washington State game on Nov. 19.
- After shooting 10-for-12 against Washington State, the Rams were at .607 on the year.
- Rhode Island averages 19.9 free throw attempts per game, which ranks 168th in the country.
