How it Happened
It was a rough day at the office for Rhode Island (1-2), as the Rams dropped the rubber game of its three-game set at Sam Houston. The Rams fell 25-2 Sunday afternoon.
Sam Houston (2-1) pounded out 20 hits, drew nine walks and had three hit batsmen. The Bearkats scored six runs in the first two innings to build the early lead, then added five runs in the fourth, six runs in the fifth and seven more in the sixth to roll to the win.
Clayton Chadwick homered twice, doubled and drove in four runs. Leadoff hitter Lane Brewster added five runs batted in and scored four times. Nine different Sam Houston players scored at least twice in the win.
Inside the Box Score
- Freshman Michael Anderson continued the strong start to his Rhode Island career. He doubled, singled and was hit by a pitch in four plate appearances.
- Anderson led the Rams with a .455 batting average during the series. He had four doubles and drove in four over the weekend.
- Redshirt senior Mark Coley and redshirt junior Calvin McCall each had a single. McCall also scored a run.
- Sophomore Anthony DePino doubled and drove in both URI runs.
