Rams Clip Quinnipiac; Cerrato Reaches 200 Wins at URI

How It Happened
Sophomore Ryan Andrade pulled a magic trick, pitching his way out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the ninth inning to preserve an 8-7 win for Rhode Island over Quinnipiac Tuesday.

The victory was number 200 for Rhode Island head coach Raphael Cerrato with the Rams.

URI (8-11) scored eight runs over the first five innings and then held on to record its fourth straight victory. The Rams got at least one run across in each frame. The first three batters of the game walked for the Rams, as Mark Coley, Addison Kopack and Michael Anderson got free passes. Eric Genther singled to right field to bring Coley and Kopack in for a 2-0 lead.

An inning later, Coley hit a one-out double and Kopack followed with a single to right to drive in Coley for a 3-0 lead. After the Bobcats (7-14) scored twice in the bottom of the third to get within a run, Rhody used two hits and pair of Quinnipiac errors to string together a two-run, two-out rally. Jack Hopko drove in Anthony DePino with an RBI single. Hopko eventually scored on a Ryan King single, making the score 5-2.

In the fourth, Coley reached on an error that allowed him to reach second base. He stole third and came in on an RBI groundout by Anderson. Quinnipiac got two in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 6-4.

Rhody continued to push runs across in the fifth. King delivered an RBI single to plate Alex Ramirez. Hopko - who had reached on a single of his own before King's at bat - was on third when a balk was committed, allowing him to come in with URI's eighth run of the game.

Quinnipiac put together a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. A two-run triple by Anthony Donofrio and squeeze play in which Kyle Maves bunted Donofrio in pulled the hosts back within one run, 8-7.

Andrade came on in the eighth inning and retired the Bobcats 1-2-3. In the ninth, Quinnipiac got three singles to open the inning. Donofrio and Sebastian Mueller singled through the left side before Maves reached on a bunt.

With Quinnipiac threatening, Andrade struck out Keegan O'Connor. The first pitch to John Heitzman was in the dirt, but URI catcher Rob Butler was able to knock it down and keep the ball close. Donofrio tried to score, but Butler tossed to Andrade covering the plate to get Donofrio for the second out. Andrade ended the game by getting Heitzman looking.
