KINGSTON, R.I. — The Atlantic 10 announced its postseason Indoor honors Wednesday. Rhode Island men's track and field had two a spot on the All-Rookie team, and grad student Stephen Cirella was named to the All-Academic Team for third straight year.
The Academic All-Conference teams comprise 11 student-athletes who were selected based on their performance on the track and field, as well as in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for their entire academic career.
Cirella, who owns a 3.94 GPA, is working towards his PhD in Health Science. He completed his masters in Kinesiology. At the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship, he earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer.
The All-Rookie team is compromised of the top-rookie performer in each event from meets conducted from the start of the indoor regular season through the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship. The team was selected based off meet results submitted through the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFFRS).
Rhody's two freshmen Antonio Capalbo and Nate Field earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Capalbo's 2:27.42 time in the 1000 meters was the top rookie performance, and Field's throw of 17.14 meters was the best among first-year competitors.
