RHODE ISLAND VS. SAINT JOSEPH'S - SERIES NOTES

  • Friday's game will be the 110th in the history between Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's, which dates back to 1983.
  • Rhody has earned a 67-41-1 all-time advantage over the Hawks, which includes a 7-3 mark in the teams' last 10 meetings.
  • The teams split a four-game series during the 2021 campaign, which was the last time the programs faced off.
  • While URI won both games of a Saturday doubleheader, Saint Joseph's was the victor in both Friday and Sunday's outings.
  • Redshirt junior Zach Fernandez played a key role in the second game of the doubleheader, securing a save while stranding the tying run on third base so that the team could defeat SJU, 8-7.
  • A sweep this weekend would be Rhode Island's first over the Hawks since 2018.
  • This weekend's series is important to both teams as the Atlantic 10 postseason field is starting to take shape.
  • Rhode Island enters the weekend in fifth, while the Hawks are slotted third. The top seven teams will advance to the A-10 Championship Tournament.

THE LONG BALL

  • After a staggering performance at Massachusetts last weekend that saw the team put eight balls over the fence, the Rams have tied the program's single-season record with 65 home runs.
  • That mark, which was set just a season ago, had previously stood since the 2009 campaign.
  • Redshirt senior Billy Butler spearheaded the explosive effort against the Minutemen, cranking out four homers. His younger brother Rob Butler, a redshirt sophomore, chipped in two.
  • Sophomore Anthony DePino and freshman Michael Anderson also added one apiece.
  • Though DePino heads the team with 12 big flies, the Rams have contributors up and down their lineup as eight players have chipped in five-or-more.
  • B. Butler (nine) and Anderson (eight) round out the team's top three, followed in order by R. Butler (seven), sophomore Eric Genther (six), redshirt junior Alex Ramirez (six), redshirt senior Mark Coley (six) and redshirt junior Addison Kopack (five).
  • This is the first time in at least 10 seasons that more than five players have recorded at least five home runs.
