KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island's Michael Anderson has been named to the 2023 Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American Team, powered by Diamond Sports, per an announcement made by the outlet on Wednesday morning.

The first baseman is the fifth Ram to be recognized as a Freshman All-American under head coach Raphael Cerrato. Chris Hess and Tyler Wilson earned the honor in 2015. Vitaly Jangols was named to the team in 2017 and current Ram Anthony DePino earned the honor a season ago. 

A Havertown, Pa. native, Anderson took the league by storm in his first year suiting up in Keaney Blue. A three-time Atlantic 10 rookie of the week, he was one of three players that started in all 51 of the team's games. During the regular season, he led Rhody in hits, doubles and RBI while cranking out the third-most two-baggers of any freshman in the country. 

A Second Team All-Conference selection as well as an All-Rookie honoree, Anderson finished the year batting .316 while slugging .555 thanks to his 18 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs. He maintained a 21-game streak of reaching base safely through the end of the year and fielded .993 at first base. Anderson additionally made eight appearances on the mound, striking out 17 batters in 8.2 innings of work.

Anderson's accolade brings Rhody's all-time number of players earning any form of All-America recognition to 14. Seven of those players have been honored during Cerrato's tenure.
