KINGSTON, R.I. -- Rhode Island women's basketball announced the non-conference portion of its schedule Monday. The Ram's trip to Las Vegas for a Multi-Team Tournament highlights the out-of-league slate, in addition to games at ACC's NC State and BIG EAST St. John's.
Rhody opens the 2023-24 season with back-to-back home games, welcoming Sacred Heart on Nov. 7 before hosting UMass Lowell on Nov. 10. A season ago, the Pioneers were 19-14 with a 12-4 record in the NEC. The Rams then hit the road for five games, visiting Maine, in-state Brown, and NC State in a span of five days before making the trip out west for the Las Vegas Holiday Classic. The Black Bears advanced to the semifinals of the America East Tournament before falling to UAlbany. Rhode Island will face Youngstown State and Portland in the Multi-Team Tournament.
Rhode Island will welcome Quinnipiac and Princeton to the Ryan Center. A season ago, the Rams lost a heartbreaker at Princeton, falling to a shot at the buzzer 56-54. Rhody will look to get its revenge against the Tigers on Dec. 3. Princeton, who claimed the 2022-23 Ivy League Championship, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.
The Rams continue their in-state series with Providence, as they head to Friartown on Dec. 6. Last year, Rhode Island bested the visiting Friars 74-72 in a thriller at the Ryan Center. Rhody then visits St. John's to face the Red Storm for the first time since 2010.
The non-conference slate wraps up with two consecutive home games. Le Moyne, competing in their first season as Division I in 2023-24, comes to the Ryan Center on Dec. 21. The non-league finale will be Dec. 28 against Harvard in Kingston. The Crimson ended Rhody's season a year ago, defeating the Rams in the Super 16 of the WNIT.
