How it Happened
Despite a strong opening quarter, the Rhode Island women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Saint Louis when it fell 76-73 on Sunday afternoon at The Ryan Center.

The Rams (15-11, 7-6 Atlantic 10) had come out of the gates hot and shot 44% (4-of-9) from beyond the arc to lead 22-13 following the first 10 minutes. It was, however, the only quarter that the team outscored the opposition as the Billikens (10-15, 5-7 A-10) slowly clawed their way back.

Rhode Island had led for 36:55 of the action when Saint Louis took its first lead at 72-71 with 1:28 to go. The Billikens had drawn a charge underneath the basket and then capped off a 7-0 run when they pulled ahead.

From there, the game was controlled at the free throw line. The Billikens converted on three of their next four before Sophie Phillips knocked down both of her shots and trimmed the deficit to 75-73 with 32 seconds to go. Though Saint Louis did not shoot the ball well in the closing seconds, making just one of four attempts, the Rams were unable to force the tie.

Inside the Box Score
  • Rhode Island committed a season-high 25 turnovers, which Saint Louis scored 24 points off of.
  • The Rams' largest lead of the day was a 13-point advantage earned just over two minutes into the second quarter. The team was up 35-28 at halftime.
  • The Rams had five double-digit scorers, as forward Mayé Touré (16), center Tenin Magassa (14), guard Dee Dee Davis (13), forward Anaelle Dutat (12) and guard Sophie Phillips (10) achieved the feat.
  • Saint Louis' forward Peyton Kennedy scored a game-high 31 points. She was a perfect 7-of-7 from the line and hit 4-of-8 from three.
  • Touré hauled in a game-best nine boards. The Rams had a 30-23 advantage on the glass.
  • Rhode Island's 73 points were the most the team has put up in a loss all year.
