How it Happened
Rhode Island snapped a three-game losing streak by pounding Massachusetts, getting a 86-64 win on the road Wednesday night.

It was a balanced attack for the Rams (16-11, 8-6 Atlantic 10) as five different Rhode Island players scored in double figures. URI pushed the tempo all night, using the fastbreak to steadily pull away. The Rams had a 16-2 edge in fastbreak points on the night. Mayé Touré led the way with 22 points, while Sophie Phillips (15 points), Ines Debroise (14), Dee Dee Davis (13) and Tenin Magassa (11) all scored in double figures.

Massachusetts (3-23, 1-13 A-10) kept it close though the first quarter, as the score was tied at 7-7 six minutes in. However, Rhode Island got 3-point baskets from Dee Dee Davis and Sophia Vital to close out the first quarter. That helped the Rams build a 15-11 lead by the end of the period. In the second quarter, Sophie Phillips scored five points in a span of 31 seconds, hitting a layup and then a corner 3-pointer off an Ines Debroise assist to extend the lead to 20-13 and force a UMass timeout just two minutes into the second quarter.

That kick-started a quarter in which Rhody scored 24 points and built a double-digit lead. Phillips and Ines Deboise each hit two 3-point shots in the second quarter as the Rams led by as many as 14 points. Rhody ended the quarter hitting six of its final seven field goals to take a 39-25 edge into the half.

Touré scored the first six points of the second half for the Rams. Her steal and eventual layup off an assist from Phillips extended the Ram lead to 18 points and forced a UMass timeout two minutes into the half. From there, the outcome was never in doubt.
