VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — Rhode Island men's track and field had a strong start to the 2024 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, collecting 57 points in five events scored on day one.

Champions

• Derek Chalmers had a leap of 24' 2" for first place in the long jump. The mark is second-best all-time.

Highlights from Competition

• Alexander Baez placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 59' 11.50". Nate Field also earned points for the Rams, finishing fifth after throwing 54' 0".
• In the long jump, Israel Henriques-Setho had a podium finish in his Championship debut. He placed second after leaping 23' 11.75" and Ryan Tona was fifth (23' 3.50"). 
• The distance medley relay team of Adam Melnick, Nick Morrison, CJ Kiviat, and Antonio Capalbo was fifth in 10:04.09.
• Mason Brubaker placed second in the pole vault after clearing 15' 8.75". Damian Scouloukas (15' 1") and Neil Waldhausen (14' 5") also picked up points for the Rams, finishing fifth and sixth. 

In the Heptathlon

• Devin Donahue leads all competitors in the heptathlon with 2983 points after four events scored. He was second in the long jump (21' 6.50"), first in the shot put (48' 5"), third in the high jump (5' 11.50"), and first in the 60m (7.09s). 
• Ryan Tona is second after collecting 2900 points. He finished first in the long jump (22' 4.75"), second in the shot put (41' 7"), second in the high jump (6' 2"), and fourth in the 60m (7.29s).
• Damian Scouloukas rounds out the Rams with 2504 points for fifth place. He was third in the long jump (20' 11.50"), seventh in the shot put (32' 5.75"), sixth in the high jump (5' 10.25") and fifth in the 60m (7.44s),

Prelim Finishes

• Kai Schmidt-Bilowith (8.07s) and Devin Donahue (8.20s) both qualified for the 60m hurdle finals.
• Jarrett Young was first in the 400m prelim, qualifying for Saturday's final in 47.87 seconds. Nick Morrison joins him after crossing the finish in a qualifying time of 49.24 seconds.
• Lucas Plaia also claimed first in his 500 meter prelim round, advancing to the final in 1:03.33.
• Three Rams are headed to the 60 meter finals, after Tristen Howard (6.73s), Alex Arbogast (6.90s) and Jolon O'Connor (6.94s) all qualified for Saturday. 
• Eli Baker advanced to the 800m finals after finishing first in the prelim in 1:52.61.
• Both Collin Ochs (2:26.29) and Owen Fleischer (2:27.95) qualified for the 1000m final on Saturday.
• Rhody will have three in the 200 meter final, as Jarrett Young (21.61s), Jolon O'Connor (21.73s), and Liam Creeley (21.85s) all advanced.
