WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nadia Rajan and
Nikki Fernando were able to grind out a victory at No. 2 doubles that keyed Rhode Island's 4-3 win over Georgetown Tuesday afternoon.
With the doubles point hanging in the balance, Rajan and Fernando took the deciding match in a tiebreaker. They defeated Olivia Ashton and Morgan Coburn 7-6 (3) to give Rhody (8-2) a 1-0 team lead.
The point proved crucial, as the teams split the six singles matches. Rajan, Fernando and
Klara Nelander all won their singles matches in straight sets as Rhode Island extended its winning streak to six.
Rajan defeated Avantika Willy 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Fernando knocked off Katie Garofolo-Ro 6-0, 6-3 for her team-leading 12th singles win. It was her eighth victory in a row overall. Nelander improved to 7-2 in singles by defeating Paige Gilbert 6-2, 6-2.
