KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Rowing had a solid performance at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Saturday morning in Cherry Hill, N.J. to start off the 2024 season.

All but two of the Rams' five boats improved their time from heats to finals on the Cooper River. The Varsity 4+ lineup of cox Evelyn Tabor, Cait Reardon, Alexis Moore, Abby Galayda and Emma Larsh additionally highlighted the action as the only URI boat to reach a grand final, where they finished sixth (8:01.11). 

The Varsity 8+ kicked off the action for Rhody, placing fourth in its morning race with a time of 6:47.40. Later, the boat finished second in the petite final in 6:44.13, just 0.01 seconds off of first-place Georgetown. Both the Rams and the Hoyas would have beaten George Washington, which finished sixth in the grand final.

After finishing fifth in its heat (7:03.07), the Second Varsity 8+ placed third in the petite final when it crossed the line in 7:00.78. That time was faster than both George Washington and Clemson's times in the grand final. 

URI's Varsity 4+ was fourth in its heat (7:52.43) and then placed sixth in the grand final (8:01.11). The Rams were within four seconds of the fifth-place Tigers.

Both the Third Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 4+ finished at the back of their heats, placing fifth (7:44.32) and sixth (8:28.04) respectively. The 3V8+ then placed sixth in the petite final (7:53.72), while the 2V4+ crossed fourth (8:05.59).
