Rams Claim 12th Atlantic 10 Crown

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Rowing won its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship and the 12th in program history on Saturday afternoon on Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Along with the championship, Rhode Island won five individual accolades highlighted by head coach Shelagh Donohoe earning A-10 Coach of the Year. Donohoe has now won the conference's Coach of the Year honor 11 times in her decorated career. Other individual award winners included FirstTeam All-Atlantic 10 selections Emma Barnhart, Nora Lake, and Bethany Nordstrom. Liz Mayer earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10. 

The Rams Varsity 8+ boat of Barnhart, Lake, Nordstrom, Mayer, Lily Stasaitis (coxswain), Charlotte Aeder, Sasha Hanewald, Brigid McShea, and Sierra Munroe used historic pace to edge out second place Fordham. Rhode Island's time of 6:33.123 is the fourth-fastest time in A-10 history and fastest since UMass' pace of 6:32.10 in 1998.

Rhode Island's Second Varsity 8+ boat of Rachel Bauhaus (coxswain), Amanda Cubit, Anna Kann, Payton Klein, Emma Larsh, Maddy Papik, Danika Rogers, Sage Sabatino, and Sophia Thyer set a new A-10 record with a winning pace of 6:39.501. 

With the title the Rams have secured the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship field. The Championship begins on Wednesday, May 29 and continues through Sunday, May 31 on Lake Lanier in Gainsville, Ga. Rhode Island will learn its national seed during the NCAA Division I Selection Show which airs on NCAA.com on Tuesday, May 19 at 6 p.m.
