KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island graduate student
Nadia Rajan has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced late Thursday.
Playing at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, Rajan was perfect on the week, going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles while leading Rhode Island to a pair of victories. Rajan's play this season has helped Rhode Island (7-2) already match its win total from a year ago, when the Rams were 7-17 overall.
Against Stony Brook, Rajan defeated Elena Lobo-Corral in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (4) and she and
Nikki Fernando paired up for a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. The following day, Rajan again won in straight sets, knocking off Hofstra's Daniela Rodriguez 6-4, 7-5, her third consecutive singles victory. Rajan and Fernando again won in doubles play, this time by a 6-1 score. Rajan and Fernando are 13-7 together on the year and have won six matches in a row for the Rams.
This is the third career weekly honor for Rajan, who was the A-10 Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman. It is the second weekly honor for Rhode Island in a three-week span, as sophomore
Sophie Herrman was the A-10 Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 20.
