How it Happened
Rhode Island flexed its muscle to grab an Atlantic 10 win, beating Saint Joseph's 6-3 in the opener of a three-game series Friday afternoon.
With the victory, Rhode Island has won four straight contests and five of six overall.
The Rams (10-17, 3-4 A-10) took advantage of strong winds at Bill Beck Field, launching four home runs on the day. It started with a solo shot from
Anthony DePino to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
DJ Perron added a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. An inning later,
Eric Genther drilled a solo homer to right center.
Will Hindle made it three innings in a row with a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the fifth.
Saint Joseph's (12-17, 3-4 Atlantic 10) had leads of 1-0 and 3-0, but the Hawks could not keep Rhody in the park. After the visitors had three runs on three hits over the first three innings, URI's pitchers settled down. The Rams allowed just two hits and zero runs over the final six innings.
