How it Happened
Behind a stellar performance from starting pitcher Sean Sposato, Rhode Island Baseball took down Saint Joseph's 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.

The right-hander gave the Rams (11-17, 4-4 Atlantic 10) seven scoreless innings and did not allow a hit until the sixth. He opened up the game by retiring 12-straight Hawks while URI jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

Michael Anderson began the scoring in the opening frame with a two-run double that drove in Eric Genther and Anthony DePino. In the bottom of the third, he added another two RBI when he sent his eighth home run of the season out to right center, 106 mph off the bat. Rhode Island's final run in the early spurt came in the fourth when Genther plated Mike Borrelli on a fielder's choice.

Saint Joseph's finally broke up Sposato's no-hitter in the sixth and managed to load the bases up with two outs, but the redshirt senior took a batter down swinging for a crucial out.

Rhody added two insurance runs in the seventh to increase the margin, first scratching one across on a Borrelli single. In the following at-bat, Will Hindle came in on a wild pitch to lift the team to its seven-run total.

Kenny Heon was called out of the bullpen to start the eighth and worked around one base runner to keep the slate clean. A pair of singles and a walk allowed the Hawks to load the bases in the ninth before Heon ended the shutout by walking in a run. A fielder's choice allowed the visitors to sneak one more run in before a ground ball to first ended the game.
