How it Happened
A solo shot in the bottom of the eighth was the difference in Rhode Island Baseball's 8-7 loss to Bryant on Tuesday afternoon in Smithfield.

The Rams (11-19) had led by as much as four runs at one point but were unable to hold on, as the Bulldogs (23-11) put up five unanswered to claim victory.

Both teams got the scoring started early, with Rhody trailing 2-3 by the end of the first inning. Eric Genther and Reece Moroney drove in runners in the top of the frame, while a solo home run, a single and a sac fly scratched runs across in the bottom.

Through the middle of the game, Rhode Island built a 7-3 advantage behind an Anthony DePino home run, a Bryant error and a pair of timely hits from Scott Penney and TJ Gormley. Despite their efforts, the Rams faltered the advantage, first allowing the game to be tied when a ball was hit out of the park with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the seventh. In the following inning, Bryant's third home run of the afternoon put the game out of reach.

Inside the Box Score
  • Junior Anthony DePino was the only Ram to record a multi-hit game (2-for-2) and drilled his 10th home run of the season. He also cranked out the second triple of his career.
  • Redshirt freshman TJ Gormley recorded both his first collegiate hit and RBI, finishing the afternoon 1-for-3.
  • He was one of three Rams that doubled, joined by junior Eric Genther and sophomore Jack Hopko.
  • Freshman Reece Moroney went 1-for-4 and added a stolen base.
  • Rhode Island threw seven different pitchers, with freshman Ethan Mahan (0.0 IP) taking the loss. The rookie is now 0-1 on the year.
  • Sophomore Connnor Grotyohann pitched two innings of scoreless relief, striking out a game-high three batters.
