How it Happened
Rhode Island Baseball led for the majority of the way but was unable to hang on, suffering a 13-9 loss to Bryant on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.

Though the teams had tied a few times, the Rams (12-22) did not trail the Bulldogs until the eighth inning when the visitors scored four times to pull ahead.

An RBI single and a three-run shot in that frame were the difference for Bryant (26-12), which completed its season sweep of URI.

Rhode Island had led by as much as 6-0 after jumping out over the first two innings. The Rams made the most of freebies, bringing in runs on a pair of bases-loaded walks and adding a few more on timely hits from DJ Perron and Eric Genther

Bryant first forced a tie in the fourth, using a long ball and three straight run-scoring doubles. Though URI was able to regain the advantage when Jack Hopko drove in Reece Moroney on a fielder's choice, Bryant answered right back with yet another RBI double.

Scott Penney cranked out a long single that scratched two runs across in the bottom of the fifth to put his team up 9-7, but it was their final lead as Bryant went on to stage its comeback.

Inside the Box Score
  • Freshman Scott Penney led the offense with three RBI in his 1-for-4 day. He also drew a walk.
  • Graduate student Michael Borrelli recorded the team's only multi-hit game (2-for-4) and scored a run.
  • Rhody batters worked nine walks, while the Bulldogs drew just four.
  • Sophomore Connor Grotyohann matched his career high with six strikeouts in his 3.0-inning scoreless start. He let up just one hit and did not issue any walks.
  • The Rams threw five arms out of the bullpen. All but sophomore Colin Maloney, who tossed final inning, were charged with at least two earned runs.
  • Redshirt freshman Jake Foster was the pitcher of record (0-1). He was tagged with four runs in 2.0 innings of relief but managed to strike out a career-best four batters.
  • The Bulldogs hit eight doubles, while graduate student DJ Perron accounted for the Rams' only extra-base hit.
  • Bryant had a 13-7 advantage in hits.
