How it Happened
Rhode Island Baseball scored in all but one inning to claim a 13-4 victory at Stonehill on Wednesday afternoon.

Rhody (13-22) drew a season-high 17 walks and cranked out 10 hits in the victory. Junior Eric Genther highlighted the stat sheet by working five freebies - his second time tying the program record this season.

The Rams got going immediately and put up three runs in the opening frame on an RBI walk, an error by the Skyhawks (12-22) and a Michael Anderson single.

From there, URI built a 9-3 lead without scoring on any hits. Rhode Island got runs from a pair of groundouts, a walk, a wild pitch and an error. Brandon Hsu had an impressive start on the mound, pitching the first six innings while giving up three runs on a pair of long balls and a single.

Hsu was relieved by Colin Maloney in the seventh, who tossed one scoreless frame. Kenny Heon then gave up one run on a long single in the eighth before Tommy Hughes retired all three batters he faced looking in the ninth.

DJ Perron doubled to drive in a run in the seventh before taking a Skyhawk deep with a three-run shot in the ninth, lifting the team to its final margin of victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • The victory was the Rams' second over the Skyhawks in 2024, having defeated them 19-15 on Bill Beck Field (March 20).
  • Graduate student DJ Perron registered a team-best four RBI. Both sophomore Connor Grotyohann and redshirt freshman Will Hindle posted two apiece.
  • Perron was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run.
  • Sophomore Michael Anderson also turned in a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
  • Junior Eric Genther has now drawn five walks in a game twice in one week, having done so April 20 at George Washington. Prior to Genther's effort against the Revolutionaries, the Ramsh had not had a player draw five walks since 2005.
  • Redshirt sophomore Brandon Hsu earned the win, moving his season record to 2-2. He scattered four hits and was charged with two of the three runs scored in his 6.0-inning start.
  • Five different Rams drew two or more walks.
  • Rhode Island swiped a season-high five bases, thanks to the efforts of as many different players.
