How it Happened
Rhode Island Baseball put together a complete game on Tuesday afternoon at Brown, winning 5-2 at Murray Stadium.
Rhody (8-17) took its first lead in the fourth after a two-run shot from
Anthony DePino and never looked back. In the following frame,
DJ Perron, who had come in on DePino's homer, plated
Eric Genther with a sac fly out to center field to push the advantage to 3-0.
Connor Johnston gave the Rams a great start on the bump, holding the Bears (8-18) scoreless for five frames while striking out a career-high seven batters. He recorded all three of his final outs on Ks.
Colin Maloney was the first of four arms to come out of the bullpen for URI and though a passed ball and a bases-loaded walk allowed Brown to scratch two runs across, the team preserved the lead at 3-2.
With the advantage down to just one run,
Scott Penney came through for Rhode Island and re-extended the margin with a two-run double that he hit to the gap in left-center. Both
Will Hindle and
Michael Anderson, who were walked, came in on the play.
After the two-run push in the sixth, Brown failed to put a baserunner on in any of the final three innings.
