How it Happened
After dropping the series opener, Rhode Island Baseball rallied in game two to split a doubleheader at Davidson on Friday evening. The Rams were in action at Wilson Field for nearly 10 hours due to a lightning delay that pushed back the start of the second contest.

Davidson 11, Rhode Island 4
Though the Rams (15-25, 7-10 A-10) trailed for the majority of the game, a six-spot in the eighth inning allowed the Wildcats (19-26, 5-12 A-10) to pull away for the win.

Rhode Island had scored twice in the top half of the frame on an Anthony DePino home run and a wild pitch to bring the deficit down to one at 5-4 but it was the closest they got.

DePino homered twice in the opening game, part of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. His first one came in the top of the third and had cut an early Davidson advantage down to 3-2. The Wildcats eventually stretched that out to 5-2 behind an RBI fielder's choice and a home run.

Rhode Island threw five different pitchers in game one. All but Zach Morris, who pitched one-third of an inning, were charged with at least one earned run.

Rhode Island 19, Davidson 3
The Rams recorded 19 runs on 13 hits, nine of which were for extra bases, to knock off the Wildcats in game two.

Rhody attacked early, building a 5-1 lead by the end of the fifth inning behind a trio of home runs from DePino, Michael Anderson and Eric Genther as well as a DJ Perron double.

The team kept its foot on the gas down the stretch, putting up at least two runs in each of the four final innings with a six-spot in the seventh. Anderson's second homer of the evening was a grand slam in that frame that pushed the Rams' advantage to 13-3.

Freshmen Joe Sabbath and Josh Kopetski combined for three scoreless innings to close out the game, combining for eight strikeouts.
