Rams Go Unbeaten at PC/Holy Cross Invite

WORCESTER, Mass. – Despite rain washing out competition on Saturday, Rhode Island had a high-successful start to the season, as its three players were undefeated at the PC/Holy Cross Invite on Sunday.

After action was rained out Saturday, teams convened at Holy Cross Sunday.

Rhody sophomore Blake Rothchild went 3-0 in singles play. She beat her opponents from Stonehill (8-2), Merrimack (8-0) and Providence (8-3).

Freshmen Grace Darcy and Pettersson both went 2-0 in singles play and teamed up for a doubles victory as well. In the doubles match, Dercy and Petterson led 4-3 against Stonehill before the Skyhawks tandem withdrew.

In singles play, Darcy defeated her Providence opponent 8-3 before winning against Merrimack, 8-4. Pettersson was similarly successful winning 8-4 against opponents from both Providence and Merrimack.

Rhode Island head coach Jonas Brobeck...
"It was great to have some of our girls compete this weekend. Even though we only got one day of play due to rain on Saturday, we got better as a group and learned what we need to continue to build on throughout this fall. We are excited about a great event at UMass next weekend."
