KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island celebrated its three seniors in style, rolling past in-state rival Bryant 6-1 Thursday afternoon at the URI Tennis Complex.
The Rams (11-8) clinched their third straight season with at least a .500 record. It was the 40th victory in the three seasons since head coach
Jonas Brobeck took over the program.
Before the match, the team celebrated seniors
Nikki Fernando,
Sophie Herrman and
Ava Grnja. All three contributed to Thursday's win. Fernando and
Kajsa Helgesen teamed up for their 17th doubles win of the season in the No. 1 slot. Herrman and Grnja paired for the win at No. 3 doubles, improving to 12-8 together this season.
Rhody swept doubles play, as
Grace Darcy and
Anastasia Pettersson won at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Darcy, Fernando, Herrman, Helgesen and
Miruna Scarlat all win in singles play. Â Â Â
"I am very happy and proud of our seniors," Brobeck said. "They have meant so much to us and our program, and I love how they competed with energy and heart on their special day. We can't wait for another quality match on Saturday against a good George Washington team."
The Rams host George Washington in their final home match of the season on Saturday, April 11. Play begins at 11 a.m.
