RHODE ISLAND AT OCEAN STATE CUP - TOURNAMENT NOTES
- Bryant University will serve as host for the inaugural 2024 Ocean State Cup.
- The two-day tournament features all four Division I programs in the state.
RHODE ISLAND VS BRYANT- SERIES HISTORY
- Rhode Island and Bryant have faced each other 14 times.
- Rhode Island holds a 10-3-1 series record over the Bulldogs.
- Bryant has won the last three matches in the series.
- Rhode Island last defeated the Bulldogs in a five-set thriller at the 2019 Art Carmichael tournament.
- Rhode Island had two players - Hazel Brown and Gabrielle Shilling - who recorded double-doubles in the match.
- Bryant went 2-1 last weekend at the FAU Tournament, knocking off both Seton Hall and host Florida Atlantic. The Bulldogs sole loss was a 3-0 defeat against Ball State.
- Bryant's Aubrey LaPour was selected as a member of the America East preseason All-Conference team.
- Last year, LaPour led the Black and Gold with 387 kills (second in the America East). She currently leads the team with 25 kills.
RHODE ISLAND VS PROVIDENCE- SERIES HISTORY
- Dating back to 1976, Rhode Island and Providence have faced each other 67 times.
- Rhode Island holds a 36-29-2 series record with Providence, including two straight wins.
- Providence went 1-1 last weekend at the Puerto Rico Classic. After suffering a 3-1 loss to Iowa, the Friars went on to sweep Evansville on their final day.
- Last season, Providence's Lyric Barry was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team. Barry led the Friars in solo blocks (28) and was second on the team in total blocks (97).
RHODE ISLAND VS BROWN- SERIES HISTORY
- Rhode Island and Brown have faced each other 38 times.
- Rhode Island holds a 27-10-1 series lead with the Bears, but Brown has won the last two matches.
- The Ocean State Cup will serve as the season opener for the Bears.
- Brown volleyball was selected third in the Ivy League volleyball preseason poll.
- Brown is coming off its second-straight appearance in the Ivy League Tournament championship game.
BOWMAN IN CONTROL
- Junior Aerin Bowman made a strong impression in the opening weekend of the season.
- After a career-high 16 kills against North Florida, she is third on the team with 176 career kills.
- She finished the 2023 season with 148 kills, 63 blocks and 28 digs.
- She was second on the team in kills (148) and kills per set (1.83) behind sophomore Madi Disu.
- Bowman also led the team with 63 blocks.
ROLLE ON A ROLL
- Freshman Havyn Rolle (Northridge, Calif.) made a name for herself in her first three career matches.
- The middle blocker recorded 20 kills with just five errors at the UNF Invitational.
- On the defensive side, she had four blocks, including two solo efforts.
