How it Happened
No. 17/18 Rhode Island (5-2, 3-0 CAA Football) scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to rally and beat New Hampshire 38-27 Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Wildcats (3-4, 1-2 CAA Football) led 27-17 after Nick Reed kicked his second field goal of the third quarter. It was part of a 13-0 run for UNH.
Facing a third-and-12 near midfield early in the fourth quarter,
Devin Farrell hit
Marquis Buchanan for a 27-yard pass that gave Rhode Island life. On the next snap,
Brendon Barrow burst through the middle for a 19-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 27-24.
Later in the quarter, Buchanan again made a big third-down play. He caught a 14-yard pass on third-and-13, giving the Rams first-and-10 at the New Hampshire 38-yard line. Runs by Barrow and
Antwain Littleton, Jr. moved the ball to the UNH 16. Farrell then scrambled up the middle and dove across the goal line, helping put Rhode Island ahead 31-27 with just 2:12 to go.
On the ensuing possession, the Ram defense sealed the victory. On second down near midfield,
Moses Meus had a strip sack of UNH quarterback Matt Vezza.
Rohan Davy scooped the ball at the visiting 45-yard line and ran it all the way back for a touchdown. Â
