KINGSTON, R.I. - Quarterback
Devin Farrell and linebacker
A.J. Pena were both named CAA Football Players of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.
Pena earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the recognition with Elon's Kahmari Brown. Pena notched a game-high six tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble in Rhode Island's 58-17 win over UAlbany on Saturday.
Pena's four sacks helped him become Rhode Island's program leader in career sacks with 34.5. No other player in the FCS has recorded four sacks in a game this season. Pena joins LaJhon Jones (1997) as the only Rams in program history to record four sacks in a single game.
Farrell received the Offensive Player of the Week nod after his 333-yard, four passing touchdown performance against the Great Danes. Farrell's 19-of-20 (95 percent) passing performance is the best in the FCS this season, and the best in a single game in Rhode Island program history.
Farrell's career-high four passing touchdowns is the most in a game for Rhode Island since Kasim Hill threw for four against Georgia State on Aug. 31, 2023.
This is the first time in the CAA Football era and second time in program history that Rhode Island has earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same week. Luther Green (offense) and Paul Picciotti (defense) both received the honors on Sept. 8, 2001. Rhode Island Football was still competing in the Atlantic 10.
The Rams return home to host Bryant on Saturday, Oct. 25. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on FloCollege.com and MeTV.
