Myles Corey and
Jonah Hinton combined for 40 points and
Archie Miller recorded the 250th victory of his career as Rhode Island defeated Vermont 80-65 Tuesday at the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational.
Rhode Island (5-2) ended the first half with strong defense, holding the Catamounts without a field goal for the final 4:09 of the period. On the other end of the floor, the Rams made seven of their final nine shots, helping Rhody carry a 35-30 lead into the break.
Jonah Hinton sank a trio of early 3-pointers in the second half to spark Rhody to a 13-4 run to open the period. The lead got as high as 19 points just under the 14-minute mark. Vermont (4-3) tried to shoot its way back, but it could not get closer than nine points away.
Rhode Island scored 20 points at the free throw line in the second half to help keep the game in its grasp the whole way.
