How it Happened
Behind a second half offensive surge, Rhode Island (8-4) overcame a 10-point first half deficit to defeat Canisius (5-7) 62-45 at the Ryan Center on Tuesday night.

Rhode Island outscored the Golden Griffins 40-18 in the second half to help win its second game of the season where it trailed by as many as 10 points. Rhode Island also did so at Yale on Nov. 18. The Rams had trailed 27-17 with 2:33 left in the opening half.

Trailing 27-19 with less than 30 seconds left in the first frame, Jonah Hinton hit a three-point bucket that cut the Canisius lead to five entering halftime.

Rhode Island opened the second half on a 11-3 run forcing a Canisius timeout. The Rams had two three-pointers from Hinton and one from Tyler Cochran during that stretch. With the score 33-30 it was the Rhode Island lead since 13:45 left in the first half.

The Rams continued to improve offensively. Despite having six total made field goals in the opening 20 minutes, Rhode Island hit five of its first eight three-point bids to start the second half, propelling the Rams to a 41-32 lead with 12:40 remaining.

After a Canisius 3-pointer from Anthony Benard with 5:11 to go in the second, the Golden Griffins were within nine. That was the closest the visitors could get. Rhode Island held Canisius to zero field goals during the remainder of the game.
